Weekend Transit Update3 min. read

Here’s your weekend public transit update for the weekend of June 25. It’s your guide for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and Caltrain to access events like Giants baseball (in San Francisco AND San Jose), Dancin’ On the Avenue in Willow Glen on Saturday, Moveable Feast at San Pedro Square, the Little Portugal Parade on Sunday, and more!

Moveable Feast

This Saturday from 5pm-9pm, Moveable Feast (aka SJEats) with its famous food trucks takes place at 175 W. St. John Street in San Jose. The Feast is in the back of San Pedro Square. Several VTA buses and light rail are within walking distance of Movable Feast. Also, the St. James light rail station is two blocks east of the Moveable Feast site.

Note that Moveable Feast in San Pedro Square now takes place every Saturday evening, given its growing popularity.

Dancin’ On the Avenue 2011

The Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose hosts the 16th annual “Dancin’ On the Avenue” Festival on Saturday, June 25 from 4pm-9pm. The festival is FREE and features the community’s best food, four stages with live music, local dance performances, a Kids’ Court, and of course, dancing. The Festival is held along Lincoln Ave. in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose.

VTA’s 64 bus line normally runs along Lincoln Avenue in Willow Glen. However, to accommodate the Festival from 12:30pm to 11pm, the 64 bus line will be rerouted via Pine, Bird and Coe in both directions.

Little Portugal Parade

On Sunday, the annual Little Portugal Parade will be held along E. Santa Clara Street in San Jose. The parade route will force VTA to reroute the 22 & 23 bus lines between 9am-1pm on Sunday to accommodate the parade setup, route and cleanup.

San Francisco Giants Baseball

This Saturday at 1:10pm and Sunday at 5:05pm, the San Francisco Giants host the Cleveland Indians at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Caltrain will have special service to and from both games. AT&T Park is only one block north and a 5-minute walk from the 4th/King Caltrain station and San Francisco terminus.

Expect standing-room only (SRO) conditions on northbound Caltrain service about 3 hours before game time. As fans take Caltrain home at the end of each game, expect SRO conditions on southbound Caltrain service.

When taking Caltrain, make sure to buy your train ticket (and parking ticket) at the ticket vending machines on the platform before boarding. Otherwise, you are subject to a fine of $250, plus court costs.

San Jose Giants Baseball

The San Jose Giants (Class A minor league baseball affiliate of the San Francisco Giants) take on the Stockton Ports Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 5pm at Municipal Stadium on Alma St. at Senter in San Jose. VTA’s 73 bus line from 2nd/Santa Clara at the light rail stop serves Municipal Stadium with a bus stop right near the front stands.
