Weekend Transit Update-8/27/20112 min. read

This is your Silicon Valley Weekend Transit Update for the weekend of August 27, 2011.

This guide will feature Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) bus, light rail, and Caltrain options to the following events this weekend:

  • California Home Garden and Design Show @ Santa Clara County Fairgrounds
  • Italian Festa @ Guadalupe River Park
  • San Francisco Giants baseball vs. Houston

California Home Garden & Design Show

Now thru Sunday from 11am-6pm at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds on Tully Road in San Jose is where the California Home Garden & Design Show takes place. A map of the area is below:

VTA’s 26, 66 and 68 bus lines serve the County Fairgrounds area. In fact, the 26 bus stops within a few feed of the main entrance of the Fairgrounds. From VTA light rail you can transfer to the 26 bus at Curtner light rail station. Alternately, you can catch a Kaiser San Jose or Gilroy-bound 66 or 68 bus respectively at 2nd & Santa Clara in downtown San Jose, get off the bus at Monterey Highway & Tully, and walk 1/4 mile east on Tully to the Fairgrounds.

Italian Festa

This Saturday and Sunday, the 31st Annual Italian Family Festa takes place at Guadalupe River Park in downtown San Jose. The Festa will have entertainment, specialty foods, bocce ball, and even a “grape stomp.” Of course there will be arts and crafts for the whole family. The Festa will run on Saturday from noon-9pm and on Sunday from noon-6pm.

Use our H.P. Pavilion Transit Guide for information on VTA bus, light rail, and Caltrain service to the H. P. Pavilion. The Festa area is just east of the H.P. Pavilion at Guadalupe River Park.

San Francisco Giants Baseball

On Friday at 7:15pm, Saturday at 6:05pm and Sunday at 1:05pm, the San Francisco Giants host the Houston Astros at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Caltrain will have its usual special service to and from these games.

Simply take Caltrain to San Francisco’s 4th & King station (at the end of the line), and walk 1 block north to AT&T Park. Make sure to buy your ticket (or tickets) or have your Clipper Card validated at the station you’re getting on before boarding Caltrain or you will be fined!

REMEMBER:

Use this page to obtain the latest VTA and Caltrain schedule and fare information. Try to have exact change and most importantly, proof of valid fare before you board light rail or Caltrain, to avoid being fined by fare inspectors.

Have a nice weekend! Enjoy yourself at these and other events, and STAY SAFE!
