For the first time, a member of the VTA’s Board of Directors will be joining us for our meeting.  Teresa O’Neill, Santa Clara City Council member, and VTA Board of Directors’ member, will be joining us at our meeting this Wednesday, April 19 to help discuss local transit issues.

Of primary discussion this Wednesday: VTA’s final “Next Network” bus and light rail service restructuring proposal.  That proposal will be voted on by the VTA Board of Directors in May.  Ms. O’Neill will be dialing in remotely as she is out of town for a public transit meeting.

Meeting details and agenda are below…

Here’s where our group meeting on Wednesday will take place:

TIME & DATE: Wednesday, April 19 @ 6pm
PLACE: San Jose Peace & Justice Center, 48 S. 7th Street (between E. Santa Clara St. & E. San Fernando St., San Jose)
GETTING THERE: The Peace & Justice Center is a short walk from VTA’s 22, 63, 64, 72, 73, 522 Rapid and Highway 17 express buses.  It’s also a 5-10 minute walk from the Santa Clara light rail station.

Want more directions on getting to the Peace and Justice Center? Here’s a map of the area around the Peace and Justice Center.

Can’t come to our meeting in person? Here’s how you can dial in to our meeting. Details:

conference call # 1(415)655-0001
passcode (when prompted) 199603654

Before April 19, comment below on Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) issues you have for Ms. O’Neill. Those questions you submit will be read for and responded to (where legally allowed) by Ms. O’Neill before those from attendees live or dialed-in.

Note that this meeting will be recorded for posterity purposes and shared online.

If time allows, we will also discuss:

  • plans to put together a (badly needed) “First Time Transit Rider” guide, with videos
  • any other ideas or issue you want to help make public transit in Silicon Valley better for everyone.

What are your thoughts on the VTA’s final “Next Network” proposal?  What would you like to ask Ms. O’Neill at our meeting on Wednesday?  Please comment below.

This is our most significant meeting in our group’s history.  Come join us and prove that you can be heard.

  1. Remind her that “linearity” or direct routes was one goal of this exercise, which is why the 23 no longer diverts off Stevens Creek at Valley Fair. Why then does route 53 make a time consuming zig-zag from Homestead to Stevens Creek via Wolfe and Tantau instead of running straight down Homestead. Thanks.
