Thanksgiving Weekend Transit Tips2 min. read

happy thanksgiving

On behalf of the Silicon Valley Transit Users, I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving Day – and weekend.

On Thanksgiving Day, all Silicon Valley transit agencies like Caltrain, SamTrans in San Mateo County and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule.

On Friday, many of these same transit agencies will run on a modified weekday (and in the case of Caltrain, a Saturday) schedule.

There are plenty of events this long weekend with good transit options to help you beat the expected traffic gridlock. Details follow…

Last San Jose State Football Home Game Of the Season

On Friday at 12:30pm, the San Jose State Spartans host Boise State in the last game of the season for both teams in San Jose.  The Spartans are playing to end their season at 6-6, which would make the team “bowl eligible.” Our transit guide details three (3) VTA bus lines that stop within a 10-minute walk of Spartan Stadium, where the game will take place.

Juan Gabriel In Concert

On Friday at 8pm, Juan Gabriel will be in concert at the SAP Center in San Jose. Use our transit guide to SAP Center to help you beat traffic gridlock to and from the concert.

Notre Dame vs. Stanford Football

On Saturday at 4:30pm, Stanford hosts Notre Dame in an important football game for both teams in Palo Alto.  Both teams seek to qualify for the College Football Playoff in January 2016. Use our public transit guide to Stanford football to help you beat traffic gridlock to and from “The Farm.”

Taking Caltrain to and from the Stanford game? Buy your tickets at the station you are leaving from, amongst other notes.  This is because there are no ticket machines nor Clipper Card readers at the special “Stanford Stadium” stop.

Saturday Hockey Doubleheader

On Saturday at 1:15pm, the San Jose Barracuda host the Texas Stars in American Hockey League action. Later that evening, at 7pm, the San Jose Sharks host the Calgary Flames in National Hockey League action. Both games take place at the SAP Center in San Jose.

Use our transit guide to SAP Center to help you beat traffic gridlock to and from both games.

San Francisco 49ers Football

On Sunday at 1:05pm, the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Use our 49ers’ Transit Guide to help you beat the expected traffic gridlock to and from the game.

Farmers’ Markets

Many Farmers’ Markets will be open this Saturday and Sunday for your post-Thanksgiving food shopping needs. Better news: many VTA bus lines and even light rail already serve these Farmers’ Markets. In fact, we just added VTA bus information for two Farmers’ Markets in Saratoga.

Conclusion

These transit tips are there as a public service. Please use them to help beat traffic gridlock. They are also good for avoiding drunk driving. Please stay safe and sane this Thanksgiving Day weekend.
