VTA Strike Survival Guide

[toc]

Background

With VTA’s chief labor union, ATU Local 265, possibly going on strike, we’ve put together a transit survival guide.  Its goal: help you get around Santa Clara County when many VTA bus and light rail services may not be running due to the strike.

This survival guide is based on similar guides put out by others to help riders out when their workers go on strike.  While we all hope cooler heads prevail, and a transit workers’ strike is avoided, this guide will help you out in case a strike does occur.

Note that this guide will be heavily edited as new information becomes available. Check back at least once every 6-8 hours for any updates.  On Twitter and Facebook, updates will be published thru @svtransitupts and our Facebook page, respectively.

What Will Be Running During the Strike

  • VTA ACCESS Paratransit
  • Popular bus lines like the 22 along El Camino Real and the 68 along Monterey Highway. *

* depending on availability of bus drivers brought in from public and private companies.

What Will NOT Run During the Strike

  • The entire VTA light rail system

Other Transit Alternatives For the Strike

  • dial “511” for carpool information and matching
  • use scoop app for Android and Apple iPhone
  • scooter services like limebike
  • bikeshare like BayWheels
  • Uber, Lyft

Conclusion

This guide will be heavily edited as new information becomes available. Check back at least once every 6-8 hours for any updates.  On Twitter and Facebook, updates will be published thru @svtransitupts and our Facebook page, respectively.  We hope cooler heads prevail, and this guide is ultimately not needed.
