On behalf of the Silicon Valley Transit Users, I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving Day today.

On Thanksgiving Day, many Silicon Valley transit agencies like Caltrain, SamTrans and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will run on a Sunday/Holiday schedule.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) trains between San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, Millbrae and Fremont will run on a Sunday schedule Thanksgiving Day. Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) trains will NOT run on Thanksgiving Day nor on the day after Thanksgiving (Friday). Full ACE train service returns on Monday, although the special ACE train to and from Levi’s Stadium will run for this evening’s San Francisco 49ers game vs. Seattle at 5:30pm.

Details on special public transit service for Thanksgiving Day and the proce, eding weekend – including “Black Friday” – are below.

Tonight at 7:30pm, the first sporting event at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara will take place when the San Jose Earthquakes host Seattle Sounders FC in a soccer match.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has bus and light rail information to get fans to and from Levi’s Stadium for tonight’s soccer match.

Make sure you get to the stadium as early as possible to beat the expected traffic gridlock. About 45,000 fans are expected for tonight’s game. Also, strict security – including strict bag check policies – will be in effect.

I will personally be at tonight’s game taking VTA light rail, to observe how everything.

If you are going to tonight’s game, please stay safe and sane, and have fun.

Memorial Day Weekend Transit Update

On behalf of the Silicon Valley Transit Users, let us thank our Armed Forces on this long weekend – the traditional start of summer.

Caltrain and buses and light rail from the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) can be taken to and from many of these events. Especially on Caltrain, expect standing room only (SRO) conditions on the commuter rail service this long weekend.

There are many things going on in San Jose and Silicon Valley this weekend. From Giants baseball in San Francisco and San Jose, to FanimeCon in San Jose to Earthquakes Soccer, and even a taco festival, transit options to these and other events will be featured here. These buses and trains to and from these events help you beat traffic gridlock and parking nightmares expected at these events. These transit tips also help you avoid getting arrested for dangerous driving by local police this weekend. Details are after the More… jump

Two Transit Guides Revised

For this coming Farmers’ Market season in Silicon Valley, the Farmers’ Market transit guide has been revised. It now features more accurate Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) bus & light rail options. Information for Moveable Feast will be made available in a separate page, currently a work in progress.

Also, the Mobile Apps page was revised to point to the correct link for NextVTA on Android.

Enjoy!

Know Before You Board

I encountered one woman on VTA’s 522 Rapid bus today. She was upset that the Palo Alto-bound bus did not stop at El Camino/Warburton in Santa Clara. She paid $2 for riding, and thought the bus was like the regular 22. She was surprised when I told her the bus would not stop until El Camino/Scott. It turned out she did not ask the bus driver if the 522 Rapid bus makes the stop she wanted (which it does not).

When in doubt, ask the bus driver first before boarding any bus. Part of his/her job is to know the bus stops for that route. Better yet, call VTA at (408)321-2300 (or visit their web site) before going on your bus/light rail trip. Knowing before going will save you the embarassment – and money – of missing your destination on transit.
