Weekend Transit Update-8/12/20112 min. read

This is your weekend transit update for events in and around Silicon Valley for August 12-14, 2011. It includes Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) bus, light rail, and Caltrain public transit options to events like the San Jose Jazz Festival, Outside Lands in San Francisco, and more.

San Jose Jazz Festival

The 2011 San Jose Jazz Festival takes place now thru Sunday in various music venues and Cesar Chavez Park in downtown San Jose. The Jazz Festival also includes a club crawl through all of the music venues.

Downtown San Jose serves as Silicon Valley’s main hub for many VTA buses like the 22, 64, and 522 Rapid, in addition to light rail. The San Jose Jazz Festival is thus accessible by many of these VTA bus lines and light rail. The Jazz Festival is also a short walk or bus/light rail connection away from Caltrain at San Jose Diridon Station.

Outside Lands Festival

The Outside Lands Festival takes place at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco from Friday thru Sunday.

Several bus and rail options exist to get you to and from Outside Lands in San Francisco this weekend. One way to reach Outside Lands from Silicon Valley is via Caltrain to San Francisco’s 4th/King terminal. At 4th/King, transfer to San Francisco MUNI’s T-Third streetcar to Embarcadero Station, then transfer to the N-Judah streetcar and ride it all the way to Golden Gate Park. Alternately, take BART from Fremont (via VTA’s 180/181 express buses from San Jose or Milpitas) to Civic Center station, then transfer to an N-Judah streetcar or 5-Fulton MUNI bus to Golden Gate Park.

Expect crowds and possible standing room only (SRO) on Caltrain during the Festival. In particular, SRO is expected as the Festival winds down on Sunday afternoon.

Make sure to have a valid ticket before boarding the N-Judah streetcar in San Francisco or you will be fined!

Music Superstars In San Jose This Weekend

Now that our transit guide to the H.P. Pavilion in San Jose is in the new web site format, use it to help you see Katy Perry Friday night, and Michael Buble on Saturday night. Both shows are due to start at 7:30pm.

Overall…

Use this page to obtain the latest VTA and Caltrain schedule and fare information. Try to have exact change and most importantly, proof of valid fare before you board light rail or Caltrain, to avoid being fined by fare inspectors.

Have a nice weekend! Enjoy yourself at these and other events, and STAY SAFE!
